The joint doctorate degree, entitled “European Doctorate in Economics – Erasmus Mundus”, is officially recognized as a doctorate degree by the partner institutions, with the same rights and duties as their national degrees. For the institutions of the Consortium that cannot deliver the joint degree due to regulatory reasons, the student will receive a double degree. This double degree consists of two independent degrees referring to each other awarded by the two universities in which the PhD student has studied under a co-tutelle agreement. Each degree is fully recognized in the country in which it has been issued.
Degree Awarded
The students having successfully carried out the Study Programme will be awarded a joint doctorate degree and a diploma supplement. The joint doctorate degree, entitled “European Doctorate in Economics – Erasmus Mundus”, is officially recognized as a doctorate degree by the partner institutions, with the same rights and duties as their national degrees. For the institutions of the Consortium that could not deliver the joint degree due to regulatory reasons, the student will receive a double degree. Each degree is fully recognized in the country in which it has been issued. The diploma supplement will describe the overall organization of the EDE-EM Programme, the added value it brings to the student, and the details on the student’s study program.
The institutions that currently cannot offer the joint degree have made offering the joint degree a top priority and have set the goal of being able to offer the joint degree by the time the first cohort of students is graduating. Below is a list of the current makeup of universities that can offer a joint degree and those that can offer only the double degree. If a student studies under the supervision of two joint degree institutions, the final degree will be the joint degree. If the student studies under the supervision of a double degree institution, then the final degree will be a double degree.
